Potential fixes for dev error 6068

There are a number of fixes users are reporting across forums. We’ve taken the liberty of scrolling through those answers to find the most common fixes so you don’t have to.

Change VideoMemoryScale value

Changing the VideoMemoryScale value from inside the game files has shown a great amount of success.

To change this setting, do the following:

  • Open up File Explorer
  • Go to Documents\Call of Duty Modern Warfare\players
  • Open up the adv_options.ini file with any text editor
  • press CTRL+F and search for ‘VideoMemoryScale’
  • Change the value to 0.5

Once done, save the changes and try running the game. If you’re lucky, this change should be enough for you.

If not, keep reading and hopefully you’ll find a solution in them.

Update GPU drivers

We know, this isn’t a true fix but it doesn’t hurt to make sure that your drivers are updated. Sometimes we just miss an update and it’s waiting to be installed.

Here’s how you can check for updates and install drivers for Nvidia GPUs.

Here’s the guide for checking and updating AMD GPUs.

If updates are found, install them and see if they make any difference.

Run as administrator

Running as administrator tends to solve issues from time to time. It’s worth checking out if this fix resolves your issues with dev error 6068.

Simply right-click the Modern Warfare/Warzone executable and click on ‘Run as administrator‘.

cod warzone run as administrator

Set game mode to borderless

Video settings sometime matter a lot with unoptimized GPUs. The game isn’t tested properly to run with all settings and lowering the usage of the GPU can help run the game more smoothly.

Open the game settings and go to the resolution section. From there, select ‘Borderless’ mode and try playing the game.

Disable ray-tracing

Ray-tracing might look good for gameplay, but this setting makes heavy use of the GPU. If it’s not able to perform properly because of unoptimized drivers, disabling it might give better performance.

Open up your game settings and disable all settings related to ray tracing and restart the game.
